Frequently asked questions

What is the Bitter Cherry Orchard?

The Bitter Cherry Orchard is our family’s project. Everything we do here, we do with passion and dedication. In our orchard you can find fresh bitter cherries and bitter cherry jam. The orchard is a project still in development, and we currently have about 800 fruit trees.

When are the bitter cherries picked?

Bitter cherries are ready for picking in the middle of June, with small variations from year to year, since it all depends on the weather.

Can I find only fruit at the orchard, or other products too?

We are certified by the local authorities as bitter cherry producers, so you can find fresh fruit in season. We make bitter cherry jam by hand, in limited quantities. All our jams are available in the online shop.

Do you only have bitter cherries or other varieties too?

You can find other varieties in our orchard too. We also have sweet cherries (Stella, Rivan, Carmen, Germersdorf and Boambe de Cotnari) as well as other fruit trees: sour cherries, apples and pears. Diversity is very important for pollination. However, the quantities are small and kept for our own use. They are usually an attraction for the orchard’s youngest visitors.

Can I come and pick bitter cherries?

Our skilled pickers do a wonderful job. Picking bitter cherries is not easy. Compared to sweet cherries they are much smaller, juicier and very fragile. On top of that, bitter cherry stains are a long-lasting souvenir. It’s best to leave the picking to those with experience. Meanwhile, you can enjoy a tour of our orchard.

What activities are held in the orchard?

The orchard is an ideal place for little ones, who get the chance to meet and interact with lots of animals. The orchard is also home to three horses, so come prepared with apples and carrots.

The orchard hosts private events for children, introductory horse riding lessons, photo sessions and fruit tree pruning courses.
